Ophiuchus (pronounced off-ee-YOO-cuss) represents a man with a snake coiled around his waist. He holds the head of the snake in his left hand and its tail in his right hand. The snake is represented by the constellation Serpens.

Ophiuchus holds a huge snake, Serpens, in both hands as shown in the Atlas Coelestis of John Flamsteed. Serpens is unique in being divided into two halves.
 The Greeks identified him as Asclepius, the god of medicine. Asclepius was the son of Apollo and Coronis (although some say that his mother was Arsinoë). The story goes that Coronis two-timed Apollo by sleeping with a mortal, Ischys, while she was pregnant by Apollo. A crow brought Apollo the unwelcome news, but instead of the expected reward the crow, which until then had been snow-white, was cursed by Apollo and turned black.

In a rage of jealousy, Apollo shot Coronis with an arrow. Rather than see his child perish with her, Apollo snatched the unborn baby from its mother’s womb as the flames of the funeral pyre engulfed her, and took the infant to Chiron, the wise centaur (represented in the sky by the constellation Centaurus).

Chiron raised Asclepius as his own son, teaching him the arts of healing and hunting. Asclepius became so skilled in medicine that not only could he save lives, he could also raise the dead. On one occasion in Crete, Glaucus, the young son of King Minos, fell into jar of honey and drowned while at play. As Asclepius contemplated the body of Glaucus, a snake slithered towards it. He killed the snake with his staff; then another snake came along with a herb in its mouth and placed it on the body of the dead snake, which magically returned to life. Asclepius took the same herb and laid it on the body of Glaucus, who too was magically resurrected. (Robert Graves suggests that the herb was mistletoe, which the ancients thought had great regenerative properties, but perhaps it was actually willow bark, the source of salicylic acid, the active ingredient in aspirin.) Because of this incident, says Hyginus, Ophiuchus is shown in the sky holding a snake, which became the symbol of healing from the fact that snakes shed their skin every year and are thus seemingly reborn.

Others, though, say that Asclepius received from the goddess Athene the blood of Medusa the Gorgon. The blood that flowed from the veins on her left side was a poison, but the blood from the right side could raise the dead.

Someone else supposedly resurrected by Asclepius was Hippolytus, son of Theseus, who died when he was thrown from his chariot (some identify him with the constellation Auriga, the Charioteer). Reaching for his healing herbs, Asclepius touched the youth’s chest three times, uttering healing words, and Hippolytus raised his head.

Hades, god of the Underworld, began to realize that the flow of dead souls into his domain would soon dry up if this technique became widely known. He complained to his brother god Zeus who struck down Asclepius with a thunderbolt. Apollo was outraged at this harsh treatment of his son and retaliated by killing the three Cyclopes who forged Zeus’ thunderbolts. To mollify Apollo, Zeus made Asclepius immortal (in the circumstances he could hardly bring him back to life again) and set him among the stars as the constellation Ophiuchus.

The brightest star in Ophiuchus is second-magnitude Alpha Ophiuchi, called Rasalhague from the Arabic meaning ‘the head of the serpent collector’. Beta Ophiuchi is called Cebalrai from the Arabic for ‘the shepherd’s dog’; the Arabs visualized a shepherd (the star Alpha Ophiuchi) along with his dog and some sheep in this area.

Delta and Epsilon Ophiuchi are called Yed Prior and Yed Posterior. These are compound names, formed from the Arabic al-yad, meaning ‘hand’, with the Latin words Prior and Posterior added to give names meaning the ‘leading’ and ‘following’ part of the hand.

Woody Allen (1 decembrie, 1935), New York, numele iniţial Allen Stewart Konigsberg, numele legal Heywood Allen, este unul dintre cei mai importanţi regizori de film şi comedieni americani, de naţionalitate evreu.

Filmul său preferat din copilărie este Double Indemnity, în regia lui Billy Wilder. În primul an de şcoală a fost înscris într-o clasă avansată, dat fiind bunul coeficient de inteligenţă. Va urî şcoala din prima zi, devenind un rebel. Nu va face temele pentru acasă, fiind nepoliticos cu profesorii şi indisciplinat. Surprinzător, era foarte bun în sport (baschet, fotbal, fotbal american, stickball) şi mereu între primii aleşi a juca în echipele din cartier. Îi plăcea boxul şi se antrena serios timp de mai multe luni, până când părinţii i-au cerut să abandoneze. În orice caz, sportul si filmul nu au fost singurele sale interese. A devenit obsedat de muzică şi de magie (mai târziu acestea vor deveni elemente caracteristice filmelor sale). În jurul vârstei de 15 ani a dat o audiţie pentru un program de televizune The Magic Clown: a făcut un truc Passe-passe bottles, dar fiindcă făcuse sa apară o sticlă de lichior, i s-a interzis difuzarea în emisiunea pentru copii. Va începe să cânte la clarinet şi o va face de atunci în fiecare zi.

În primăvara lui 1952 Allan S. Königsberg şi-a schimbat numele în Woody Allen. La 16 ani a început să scrie glume pe care le-a trimis principalelor ziare newyorkeze, sperând ca ziariştii să le folosească. Fiind timid, nu a vrut ca colegii de şcoala să-i vadă numele în ziar, în cazul în care glumele vor fi fost publicate. Foarte curând, glumele lui au fost frecvent folosite de Earl Wilson de la New York Post, apărând nesemnate sub rubrica Earls Pearls. Doar pe data de 25 noiembrie 1952, numele său va fi menţionat la sfârşitul rubricii, şi din acel moment lucrurile încep să-i mearga bine ca autor umoristic şi de comedie. În 1953, Woody s-a înscris la facultatea de artă cinematografică la Universitatea New York. Nefiind interesat să asiste la o mare parte din cursuri , şi având note insuficiente la sfârşitul semestrului,, va fi în cele din urmă exmatriculat. În 1959, simţindu-se melancolic fără un motiv aparent , Woody Allen a început o terapie psihanalitică . De atunci va vizita un psihanalist săptămânal, cu întreruperi ocazionale, dupa afirmaţiile sale , nu atât pentru terapie, cât pentru a vorbi cu o persoană obiectivă. Datorită acestei lungi experienţe, psihanaliştii şi glumele despre ei vor fi o tema constantă în creaţiile sale.

Prima prietenă stabilă, care va deveni prima lui soţie, a fost Harlene Rosen. S-au cunoscut la repetiţia generală a unui trio de jazz, în care el cânta la saxofon sopran, Harlene cânta la pian , iar prietenul lui Woody, Elliot Mills, la tobe. În 1955, Woody a fost unul dintre cei 6 angajaţi ai NBC-ului, în cadrul unui program pentru perfecţionarea scriitorilor. În consecinţă, Woody a plecat la Hollywood fără Harlene pentru a se alătura grupului de scriitori pentru Ora Comediei Colgate. Liderul grupului, Danny, era fratele mai mare al scriitorului Neil Simon. Mai târziu, Woody Allen va spune că tot ce a învăţat despre comedie, a învăţat de la Danny Simon.

Woody şi Harlene s-au căsătorit la data de 15 martie 1956 la Hollywood. S-au întors apoi la New York unde Harlene va studia filozofia ,iar Woody va compune monologuri şi glume pentru actori comici, la preţul de 100$ de fiecare minut “recitat” de aceştia. În verile anilor 1956-58, Woody Allen a dobândit o experienţă inestimabila scriind şi regizând la teatrul Tamiment. La Tamiment s-au pus săptămânal în scenă noi şi noi musicaluri şi scheciuri scrise şi regizate de el. Textele nici unuia dintre aceste scheciuri nu s-au păstrat, cu excepţia celui al “Seratei Inaugurale”, care a fost regăsit recent. În noiembrie 1958, Woddy a început să scrie împreună cu Larry Gelbart pentru The Chevy Show, pe canalul NBC. Spectacolul, cu faimosul Sid Caesar, a rulat la televiziune vreme de 10 ani. In primii ani Woody Allen era destul de mulţumit cu aceasta slujbă la televiziune, câştigând 1.700$ pe săptămână. După ce a văzut un spectacol teatral cu Mort Sahl, încetul cu încetul interesul său pentru televiziune a început să scadă , lăsând loc planului de a se lansa el însuşi ca actor de comedie. În 1958 Woody îi cunoaşte pe viitorii săi manageri, Charles H. Joffe şi Jack Rollins. De atunci, aceştia au negociat pentru Woody Allen contracte în valoare de milioane de dolari, fără ca între ei şi artist să fi existat vreodată un contract scris , întelegerea fiind consfinţită doar printr-o strângere de mână. Ei l-au convins pe Woody Allen să prezinte el însuşi, pe scenă, ceea ce scria. Din 1960 şi până în 1968 Woody a lucrat ca actor comic , devenind mai cunoscut ca oricând în trecut. Dacă în 1960 câştiga doar 75$ pe săptămână, în 1964 devenise deja un actor afirmat, solicitat pentru spectacole în întreaga ţară, şi câştiga 5.000$ pe săptămână. în această perioadă Woody Allen a realizat trei albume : Woody Allen, Woody Allen Volume 2 şi The Third Woody Allen Album. În 1964, Woody şi-a făcut debutul în industria cinematografică, fiind angajat ca scenarist pentru What´s New Pussycat.

Un al 13-lea semn zodiacal, aparut din cauza unor mici devieri de la traiectoria Pamantului

Pamantul nu se invarte in jurul propriei axe ca un balon perfect sferic, ci mai degraba ca un titirez, pentru ca atractiile manifestate de Soare si Luna asupra Terrei nu sunt uniforme. “Pe scurt, Soarele a deviat putin de la traiectoria pe care o avea in urma cu 3.000 de ani, cand a luat nastere astrologia”, a declarat John Shobbrook, director al observatorului Siding Spring al Universitatii Nationale din Australia.

Semnul zodiacal se numeste Ophiuchus sau Purtatorul de Serpi si cade in perioada 30 noiembrie – 18 decembrie, intre zodia Scorpionului si cea a Sagetatorului.

Semnul, reprezentat de niste serpi incolaciti utilizati de medici, a fost remarcat de Ptolemeu, parintele clasic al astronomiei, care l-a inscris printre alte 48 de semne in catalogul sau de astronomie “Almagest”. Shobbrok a calculat ca in prezent exista o deviere de 30 de grade intre Soare si Pamant ceea ce inseamna ca aceasta constelatie poate avea statut de semn zodiacal si poate fi inclusa in banda zodiacala inventata de babilonieni in urma cu 3000 de ani, informeaza Shobbrook.

In mitologie, Ophiuchus era reprezentat de un batran cu mantie sprijinind un sarpe. Se spune ca Ophiuchus il reprezinta pe Esculap, un vindecator din antichitate, iar sarpele indica faptul ca veninul poate vindeca sau ucide. Se spune ca oamenii nascuti in aceasta zodie au capacitati de vindecare, pot interpreta visele, cauta pacea, au talent poetic si atrag norocul.
